Feed the trackers garbage.

Ad networks build a profile of you from every click. Ad Poison scrambles it with decoy browsing, blocks the worst offenders, and walks you through wiping the slate clean.

How it works

Three moves to break your ad profile

No single trick beats modern ad tech. Stack all three and you go from a crisp target to a blurry mess.

Noise

Run the chaff generator. It searches and browses as a fake persona in a separate window, so your real interests get buried under a retired beekeeper's honey extractor research.

Block

Stop trackers from loading at all. Copy-paste a hosts file block for your computer, or switch your phone and router to a filtering private DNS.

Reset

Delete your mobile advertising IDs, switch off personalization at Google, Meta, Amazon and Microsoft, and set a weekly browser hygiene routine.

Step 01 · Noise

Chaff generator

Inspired by the original Chaff project. Press Start and one extra window opens. Ad Poison steers it to decoy searches at random intervals. Minimize it and get on with your day.

1. Pick a mode
2. Where to send noise

Full visit sites load in the chaff window like normal browsing. Google and YouTube block remote-controlled windows, so they get a background ping: a hidden request that carries the cookies your browser allows for third-party requests.

3. Set the pace

Each wait is randomized ±40%. Under 20s may trigger CAPTCHAs.

Tip: allow popups for this site. Keep this tab open; the chaff window can be minimized.

Honest expectations: noise alone won't make you invisible. Big platforms also profile you from purchases, location and logged-in apps. Use the generator with blocking and resets. For the strongest effect, run it in the browser profile where you're signed in to Google, YouTube or Amazon, since that's where your ad profile lives. Background pings to Google and YouTube only reach your profile if your browser allows third-party cookies; if you've blocked them (good for privacy), lean on the full-visit sites and the opt-outs instead.

    FAQ

    Questions from the crypt

Does generating fake browsing traffic actually work?

Partly. Ad systems are good at spotting pure randomness, so Ad Poison defaults to persona mode: coherent, plausible interests that look like a real person. Researchers have long shown that obfuscation tools such as TrackMeNot and AdNauseam degrade profile quality. Noise works best when combined with blocking trackers and switching personalization off, which is why this site covers all three.

Is Ad Poison safe and private?

It's a static website: no analytics, no cookies, no server, and even the fonts are self-hosted. Your generator settings and checklists are saved only in your browser's local storage. Read the privacy notice.

Will Google show me a CAPTCHA?

It can if searches come too fast. Every interval gets ±40% random jitter. Keep the pace at 20 seconds or slower and mix in several destinations. If a CAPTCHA appears in the chaff window, just stop, wait a bit, and try a slower pace.

Why not a browser extension like Chaff?

The original Chaff extension no longer works in Chrome, and traffic-generating extensions keep getting pulled from stores. A plain web page works in any browser, needs no install, and you can read every line of its source.

Is it legal to poison my ad profile?

Visiting public pages and opting out of personalization from your own device is generally lawful. Ad Poison never clicks ads (no click fraud) and never touches anyone else's accounts. If you're unsure, check your local laws and each site's terms of service.

How unique is my browser anyway?

Test your fingerprint at AmIUnique or the EFF's Cover Your Tracks. Fingerprinting works even without cookies, so pair these results with the browser hygiene guide.
