  • Get a copy of the lawsuit. This paper is not the lawsuit. lf you don't have a copy of it, go to the clerk's office at the 1st floor of the Court and get a copy.
  • File an answer within 10 days. File Answer Form UD-105 by the deadline, even if you want to move out or work out a deal with your landlord.

Your Case File is Restricted for 60 Days

Unlawful detainer cases in California are private for 60 days after they are filed. During these 60 days, the court clerk will only give case details to:

  • A person or company listed on the lawsuit, or
  • An attorney for those people or companies, or
  • A person who can give the clerk the name of the people in the lawsuit, the address, and/or the case number.You may have to prove that you live at the address by showing a valid ID.
